Strange Loops: Somali Poems, Shorts in Winter, Nkayi goblins, etc.
Somali Poems, Shorts in Winter, Nkayi goblins, etc.
Hello all!
I hope this finds you well. In the ever shifting digital landscape, I'm trying something new. Instead of sending this out yearly, or thereabouts, I'll be sending send news a little more frequently, but with fewer links. This is largely because I'm fleeing social media in an effort to be more focused, intentional and internally ordered.
I also changed platforms for this newsletter, since Tinyletter is reportedly being shut down. It doesn’t allow for resizing photos, so some of these are huge.
In any case, here are some of my (actually) recent stories, as well as a few interesting links I've come across.
My stories, etc:
Somali Poetry Takes Minneapolis: In Minnesota, Somali youth poets are changing the game (Belt Magazine)
Winter Garment Deficit Disorder: Shorts in winter, or Why some Minnesotans stick to their summer finest) (Star Tribune)
Braking News or Why the News Makes You Sad (The Rotarian)
I was also very pleased to have the Geography of Madness included on this list at Newsweek: The Best Travel Books of the Last Decade
Lastly, I have a story (this story) in a new anthology:
The Science of Story: The Brain Behind Creative Nonfiction
